Hands on experience

This is a great experience day for anyone and everyone 16+  whether you are a sheep-lover, smallholder or just fancy having a go at something different!

Come and join us at Aberhyddnant where our shearing expert will talk you through how to shear your very own sheep. Begin with a step by step small group demonstration by our very experienced shearer. This is followed by individual one-to-one hands-on training where you can do as much and get as hands-on as you would like! 

Our shearing experiences are limited, this ensures that you get the best hands on shearing experience possible as well as ensuring the well-being of the sheep. The session begins with an informative chat about wool, its properties and uses before getting hands on with shearing.

Who is this for?

Take it further with our fleece to felt experiences. Shear a sheep and then handmake an item to take home.

Need to Know

  • You must be 16 or over to attend this experience day.

  • You must arrive 10 minutes before your experience is due to start. 

  • You must attend your given slot, we will not delay the experience. 

  • Please bring wellies or old trainers and clothes that can get dirty or overalls.

  • Photos and videos will be taken during the day so you can look back on your shearing experience, if you would prefer not to be photographed please let us know.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult. 

  • To ensure the well-being of the sheep and the quality of the experience the group sizes are kept small therefore unfortunately we do not allow bystanders on the experience.

  • Experiences last approximately 90 minutes depending on activities. 

  • Please note that there are friendly dogs on the farm. Your own dogs are sadly not welcome for this experience due to the possible stress levels for the sheep.

  • The experience is conducted with small groups so early booking is advisable if you have a particular date in mind. 

  • Undated gift certificates are also available in our shop.
